1. Employees can and will be forgiving of mistakes their managers make.
In an idealistic world we all want to see management as perfect: able to make the right decisions and give us profitable and effective procedures to follow, every hour of the day. But obviously management is human and will err now and then. Because of the nature of their positions, their human moments are going to have bigger broader effects on everyone; management mistakes will seem more annoying and/or harder to overcome. But that's life - so long as management gives employees second chances they'll be perfectly willing to return the favor. This is a respectful working relationship.
2. That being said, employees cannot be forgiving of ANYTHING when there is no communication in the office.
It's one thing to make a mistake. It's another to not talk about it, admit it, or look into solutions for it.
We're only asking of you what you ask of us. If you make a mistake, tell your employees immediately. Ask for help, even: they're your team, that's what they're for, right? Don't lead your team into a never ending spiral of malpractice just because you're too stubborn or proud to admit when you make a mistake.
3. Management makes fewer mistakes when they know how to do the jobs of their employees.
Basically, it's your job to tell employees how to do what they do in an effective and profitable way. If you don't know how they work, then how can you POSSIBLY know how to make their work better? And if you're not willing to get in there and DO it yourself, then you're never going to learn and you will make many, many mistakes. Please, learn the procedures and do the same work as your team BEFORE trying to tell them how to do their jobs.
Frankly the very idea that someone would manage someone else without knowing how to do the job of their employee is disturbing on many, many levels. It explains a lot of the problems we have in corporations today.
